STORY PIONEER CALLED BY DEATH
NEVADA PEOPLE WILL ATTEND SAUNDERS FUNERALL AT McCALLSBURG.
Special to the Journal.
McCallsburg, Oct. 29.--J. F. Saunders, 86, for nearly half a century a resident of Story county, passed away at an early hour Tuesday forenoon, at his home in McCallsburg and the funeral services will be held from the presbyterian church Thursday afternoon at 2:30 after which interment will be made in the McCallsburg cemetery.Mr. Saunders had been confined to his bed for the past couple of weeks suffering from hardening of the arteries, combined with heart trouble. It had been realized that his condition was serious from the start, and his children had all been summoned, all being present with the exception of the son, Frank, of Minneapolis, who was unable to be there.
Mr. Sanders was one of the pioneer men of this part of the county, having been here for over 49 years, with the exception of a short time spent in California. He was 86 years of age, having been born January 25, 1838.
He lived on a farm 2 miles southwest of town for many years.
He leaves beside his wife, whom he married 64 years ago last Christmas, three sons and four daughters. They are E. W. of Gilbert, Frank of Minneapolis, James of Sanborn. The daughters are Mrs. Rhoda Clark of Monticello, Mrs. Veda Hamilton of Valparaiso, Ind., Mrs. Lena Ballard of Ashton and Mrs. Ruth Reid of this place. After coming back from California, they built a little home near the home of their daughter, Mrs. Reid.
It is a doubly sad time for the children, as the mother was stricken with apoplexy last Friday and is also in a serious condition. Although some better, the shock of hearing of her husband's death was hard. The children will all be here for the funeral.
