DEATH AT COLLINS.
Passing of Simpson E. Henson There Last Week.
Special to the Journal.
Collins, May 16.--Simpson Elmer Henson, 74, who died at his home in Collins, May 7, was born in Overton county, Tennessee, July 8, 1850 one of a family of nine children.Mrs. Sarah Huntrods of Collins is the only one surviving of that family.
When he was but three years od the family moved to Kentucky. From three at the age of thirteen he with two brothers joined the Union army and fought to the close of the war. During this period the family removed to Morgan county, Illinois.
October 5, 1880, he was united in marriage to Laura Sargent. To them were born two children, both dying in infancy. Mrs. Laura Henson died in 1890.
Eight years later he was joined in marriage to Miss Etha Dickey, whom with one son, Charles Raymond and one grandson, are left to mourn his departure.
Eighteen years ago the family moved from Kansas to Story county, Iowa. He farmed in the community of Collins until three years ago, when failing health compelled him to retire.
While he was never identified with any church he had for a number of months expressed a desire to be counted a follower of Christ. He was hoping for a day to come, when added strength of body would permit him to make a public confession of faith in Christ and unite with the visible church. His chief regret was that he had not done this in the vigor of manhood.
The funeral services were held from the United Brethren church Friday afternoon at one o'clock conducted by the pastor Rev. E. L. Shaffer. Interment was made in the Evergreen cemetery.
