John David Sandquist
(April 11, 1943 - July 14, 2021)JOHN DAVID SANDQUIST, age 78 of Elysian, MN and Mesa, AZ, died on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 in Rochester following a brief illness.
Born in Ames, IA on April 11, 1943, John was the son of David and Lorraine (Hutton) Sandquist of Cambridge, IA. After attending school at Iowa Wesleyan College, John began employment for Farmland Industries (later Agriliance). He continued his career in that company until his retirement in 2003. John took pride in his work and received recognition for his sales in fertilizer and chemicals and in his management with people.
John married Marilyn (Golden). To this union two daughters were born, Jodi (Bruce) Atkinson of Eagan, MN, and Lori Hinz and her fiancé Chad Roemhildt of Lakeville, MN. He was a proud Papa to Sam and Emily Atkinson and Isabel and Cooper Hinz.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Elysian, MN. He enjoyed spending time on the lake, working in his yard and garden, and playing golf with his friends. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by siblings, Martha (Paul) Brown of Southport, NC, Kenneth (Callie) Sandquist of Cambridge, IA, Cindy (Ron) Goertz of White Bear Lake, MN; sister-in-law Sandy Golden of Nevada, IA; his aunt, Bonnie King of Des Moines, IA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Leon and Jane (Bell) Golden; a brother-in-law, Tom Golden; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A private graveside service will be held for family at the Maxwell City Cemetery in Maxwell, IA. A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date.
