Marilyn Ann Sandquist
(March 25, 1945 - May 8, 2022)

We said “goodbye” to our mom, MARILYN ANN SANDQUIST, age 77 of Elysian on Mother’s Day, May 8, 2022, following a brief illness.
Born in Des Moines, IA on March 25, 1945, Marilyn was the daughter of Leon and Jane (Bell) Golden of Nevada, IA. Marilyn was a life-long learner and attended college at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, Minnesota State University in Mankato, and the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. She received her Master’s Degree in Social Work and was a passionate staff at a variety of organizations including Orchard Place, Des Moines Public Schools, and Minnesota State University in Mankato.
Marilyn met John Sandquist at the “original” Starbucks in Nevada, IA, and they started their 58-year life together. They had two daughters, Jodi (Bruce) Atkinson of Eagan, MN and Lori Hinz and her fiancé Chad Roemhildt of Lakeville, MN. She was a loving Nana to Sam and Emily Atkinson and Isabel and Cooper Hinz.
Marilyn was a dedicated PEO sister in both Mankato, MN and Mesa, AZ. When she wasn’t with her family at the lake, she enjoyed volunteering her time with a variety of organizations and was always willing to help wherever needed. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Elysian, MN.
Her family is at immense peace knowing that her and John are back together again.
A private graveside service will be held for family at the Maxwell City Cemetery in Maxwell, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Marilyn’s name to WE Share Food Shelf in Elysian, or the Elysian Library. This obituary was provided by Dennis Funeral Homes at
