Hold Funeral Services For Lewis Kitchen At Iowa Center Church

Iowa Center, Jan. 5--Funeral services for Lewis Kitchen were held here Tuesday afternoon at the Iowa Center church with the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill of Nevada officiating and the Rev. C. R. Fitz and LeRoy Sargent of Maxwell assisting. Burial was in Iowa Center cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ray Coughenour, Albert Birchmeier, E. A. Vincent, Arthur Sarsfield, Nathan Vincent and Claude Shickell.

Music was provided by Mrs. Ray Goodin accompanied by Mrs. Arthur Porter at the piano. Floral offering were cared for by Mrs. Rollin Coughenour and Mrs. Claude Shickell.

Those attending the funeral included relatives from Ames, Baxter and Minnesota.

Lewis Kitchen, son of William and Rachel Kitchen, was born May 8, 1867, near Zionsville, Ind. He came to Iowa with his parents in March of 1872 at the age of four. They moved to a farm northeast of Maxwell where he spent the remainder of his life, with the exception of seven years spent in Iowa Center.

He was united in marriage to Jennie Virginia Bennethum on March 6, 1896. She preceded him in death on May 4, 1935.

To their union were born eight children, all of whom survive. They are: Ina and Theodore, at home; Forest Kitchen and Beulah Johnson, Collins, and Cecile Kitchen, Mary Adams, Vera Osborn and Alice Beard, Maxwell. Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Florence Glasgow, Nevada, and 14 grandchildren. Preceding him in death were four brothers, Alfred, Charles, Manson and Franklin; two half-brothers, Andrew and George, and three half-sisters, Margaret, Hetty and Susan.

Mr. Kitchen was a kind father, a good neighbor ready to help in need at all times and was one of the outstanding citizens of his community. He will be missed by all who knew him.
