Former Collins Man Died in Des Moines

Special to the Journal.
Collins, May 1--Fred Graef, 66, well known real estate man of Des Moines, and a former business man of Collins, passed away suddenly Monday forenoon at 11:00 at his home at 1067 22d street, Des Moines.

He was born on a farm 3 1/2 miles southwest of Collins, Nov. 6, 1867, the oldest child of the late Hugh and Sara Graef, pioneer settlers of this community. He grew to manhood on the farm an was united in marriage to Elizabeth Dodd of Clyde, Jasper county, forty-five years ago and to this union three children were born, two sons and one daughter, the second son, William, dying in infancy. He and Mrs. Graef lived for a number of years in Collins and was engaged in the mercantile business and real estate. They were at one time residents of Maxwell, moving back to Collins and in 1908 moving to Des Moines, where they have resided most of the time since. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, son, Hugh Graef and daughter Maude Coon, all of Des Moines, one sister, Mrs. Warren Kitchell, of Collins, and three grandsons, Fredrick, Hugh and John Graef, and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Maude Coon, all of Des Moines.

Funeral arrangements were not known at this time, but it was thought that burial would be in the Evergreen cemetery at Collins.
