Rites Held For Oscar Thompson

McCALLSBURG -- The last rites for Oscar Thompson were held Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 20, with a prayer service at he home at 2 o'clock and services at the Bethany Lutheran church in McCallsburg at 2:30 with the Rev. A. I. Kvamme from Radcliffe, Ia. in charge. The church organist, Mrs. Carroll Lura presided at the organ.

The casket bearers were Carroll Lura, Ole Imsland, Elmer Anderson, Martin Bergland, Gerald Vallem and Guy Mills.

Mrs. B. A. Imsland and Mrs. G. E. DuBois sang "Have You Been in the Garden With Jesus" accompanied by Mrs. Chester Pearson. Mrs. F. E. Nail and Mrs. Guy Mills sang "Beyond the Sunset" accompanied by Cleo Tett.

In charge of the flowers were Mrs. A. J. Cook of Zearing and Mrs. Orville Ellingon.

Burial was in the Warren Township cemetery. Gifts of money were given for the building fund and organ fund and missions. The Ladies Aid served lundh to relatives and friends after the interment.

Obituary

Oscar Levi Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Thompson was born Nov. 26, 1896 in Radcliffe, Ia. and was baptized by Rev. Heidel.

He was confirmed in the Bethany Lutheran church in McCallsburg Nov. 12, 1911 by Rev. J. N. Sandvin of Roland.

He was in poor health for several months bur continued to work until taken seriously ill while at work. He was taken to the Memorial hospital in Eldora where he underwent major surgery. Although everything possible was don to bring about his recovery it was of no avail and he died Friday evening Oct. 16, 1953 at the age of 56 years, 2 months and 20 days.

He is survived by his wife, son Richard and three brothers Tollif C. of Des Moines, Lewis of Annapolis, Md. and Rasmus of McCallsburg, all of whom were present for the services.

The service was largely attended by relatives and friends. The high school pupils came in a body. Richard is a member of the Senior class.

There were relatives present from Des Moines, Nevada, Zearing and other places. The Brouhard Funeral Home were in charge of the services.
