Pioneer Woman Died at Home Here Last Evening

Mrs. Isaac Hawthorne, 81, native daughter of Story county, who had spent practically her entire life in or near Nevada, died at her home at 805 Seventh street about 9:00 o'clock Monday evening, after a lingering illness.

The funeral service will be held from the home Thursday forenoon at 10:00 o'clock, after which the body will be laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery.

Mrs. Hawthorne leaves her husband Isaac Hawthorne, two daughters Dr. Grace Hawthorne of Evansville, Indiana, and Mrs. Mable Kurtz of Nevada and five grandchildren. The grandchildren are William and Francis Murphey of Chicago, children of the daughter Pearl Murphey who died 17 years ago and June, Mary and Esther Kurtz, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Corey Kurtz of Nevada. June Kurtz has also been in Chicago, in nurses training in a hospital.

Besides these members of her immediate family Mrs. Hawthorne leaves two brothers, J. L. Livingston of Des Moines and George Livingston of Eugene, Oregon.

Mrs. Hawthorne, who was born Frances Evelyn Livingston, a daughter of George and Julia Livingston, in Story county December 16, 1855, as a young woman became a wife of Isaac Hawthorne, son of another pioneer family of Nevada and with the exception of about six years spent in South Dakota, the family home has always been in Nevada.

Here their three daughters were born and graduated from the local schools. The daughter Pearl, who took nurses training and was afterwards married in Chicago, died about 17 years ago, leaving two children. The other two daughters survive.

Mrs. Hawthorne was a woman who devoted her entire life to her home and family. She was a kind and devoted wife and mother and spent her entire time in administering to those in her home.

She will be deeply mourned by the aged husband, the daughters and their families and by her circle of near neighbors and friends.

The daughter Dr. Grace Hawthorne arrived from Evansville, Indiana, and the granddaughter, Miss June Kurtz from Chicago last evening and will be here for the funeral service.
