COLO – Alice L. Thornton, 71, of Colo, died Friday, Jan. 23 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of respiratory failure.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Chet Ryan Mortuary with the Rev. Dennis Reynolds of the Nevada Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Colo Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

She was born on Feb. 7, 1926 in Colo to Alvis LeRoy and Blanche (Cheville) Shearer. She was a homemaker and lifelong resident of Colo, graduating from Colo High School.

She married Dale Thornton on March 18, 1961 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Survivors include a son, Alfred Oxley of Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 1985.
