DEATH OF JOHN SWEENEY.
Well Known Ames Man Passed Away Saturday.
Special to the Journal.
Ames, Jan. 1-- In the death of John Henry Sweeney, who passed away at his home in this city on Saturday, Story county loses and honored pioneer citizen. Mr. Sweeney, 66, a veteran of the civil war was a victim of heart trouble. He came to Ames shortly after the war, lived here for a while, then moved away and had made his home at various places, part of the time in Hamilton county where he serve as county auditor for a couple terms and also was postmaster at Jewell. He leaves a wife and four children. Short funeral services were held at the home at an early hour yesterday morning, after which the body was taken to Jewell where services were held during the afternoon and interment was made in the local cemetery, which the deceased had a part in laying out during the time he was a resident of that village.
