From Nevada Representative January 23, 1914 (page 5)
Word comes through a paper from Grangeville, Idaho, of the death at Los Angeles of Homer E. Mattison of Grangeville. The deceased was born in 1858 and was a native of Iowa, we think of this county. He was reared or partially reared about Iowa Center and had a sister Alice, who was adopted into the Gifford family and was known as Alice Gifford, and who married Dr. Albert Hummelbaugh. Both were left orphans in their childhood and won much esteem from those who knew them. Mr. Mattison had been in Idaho since 1884, and the Grangeville paper speaks of him in very high esteem. Besides his sister already mentioned he is survived by his wife and one child, who will reside at Los Angeles, having their home here near the Hummelbaughs.
SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Homer E. Mattison/Matteson and his sister, Alice, were the children of William Henry Matteson and Mary E. Gifford. Alice A. Matteson/Mattison was adopted by William H. Gifford and his wife, Sarah Amanda Fenn. William H. Gifford and Mary E. Gifford were brother and sister so Alice was adopted by her aunt and uncle.
