REV. WALTER CERKA
Rev. Walter Martin Cerka, 80, formerly of Zearing, died at his home in Heritage Acres in Cedar Rapids Sunday, April 29, 1984.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 3, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids with Rev. Robert Dennert and Rev. Jack Hooten officiating. Additional services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Mausoleum at the Zearing Cemetery.
Walter Cerka was born on March 24, 1904, on a farm near Zearing. He graduated from Weston College in 1926, and the United Evangelical Theological seminary in 1928, and served in churches at Red Oak, Afton, Ackley, Defiance and Sharon United of Cedar Rapids. Rev. Cerka retired in 1960 after 34 years of service. He was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, where he taught adult Bible classes, the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2272 and the Top Notch Remarry Club.
On April 2, 1971, Cerka was married to Lois Lussenhop in Cedar Rapids. In addition to his wife, Rev. Cerka is survived by one daughter, Beth D. Tubach of Arvada, Colo.; two sons, David M. Cerka of Cedar Rapids, and Frank J. Cerka of Amarillo, Texas; two stepdaughters, Joyce and Jane Lussenhop of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Pearl Bolt of Omaha, Neb., and Ruth Danne of Sun City, Calif.
