OBITUARY

JOHN G. BENNETHUN.[sic]

John G. Bennethum was born in Lebanon county, Pa., on October 5, 1830 and departed this life at his home in Iowa Center, October 4, 1915, aged 85 years excepting one day. He was a veteran of the Civil War serving his country in company G ninety-third regiment of Illinois and after serving an enlistment of three years was discharged. In 1853 he came from Pennsylvania, to Cedarville, Illinois where he resided until 1870 removing to Iowa Center. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Wenrick, November, 1851. To this union were born eight children, four sons and four daughters. Three daughters, Mrs. Sina Breezley, Mrs. Kate Barnom* and an infant preceded him to the great beyond. The remaining five children are as follows: George and Will of Madrid, John of Bard, Dan of Maxwell and Mrs. Jennie Kitchen of Iowa Center. His widow also lives to mourn the absence of a good husband and father. Mr. Bennethum had been in failing health for the past year his death was no surprise to his many friends. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Frank Bean assisted by L. S. Mallery at the United Evangelical church, Iowa Center, Wednesday at 2:30 p. m. He was laid to rest in Iowa Center cemetery.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: According to Story County marriage records, Kate Bennethum married Hiram Barnett on 1 April 1879 in Story County. She died 26 February 1881 according to her grave stone. She is buried as "Katy A. Bennethum."
