MRS. D. H. SPENCER

Sarah Ann Spencer daughter of Frances and Sarah Skinner, was born March 17th 1849 at Bristol, Devonshire, England, and died November 23rd 1916, at the home of her daughter Mrs. E. W. Sanders after more than two months on intense suffering, caused by a cancer. Her age was 67 years, 8 months, and six days. When two and one half years old, she with her parents came to Kendall County, Illinois and at the age of fourteen to Livingston county, Illinois. Feb. 24th 1868 she married David H. Spencer. To this union was born two daughters and four sons, Mrs. Eva Sanders of Ames, Byron W., Elbert E., Charles H., Arthur B. of Ames and Mrs. Edna M. Randall of Clemons, Ia. Three of the sons, Byron, Elbert and Charles died in September 1883 within two weeks of diptheria. In 1870 they came to Story county where they have since resided. When Mrs. Spencer was sixteen she was converted and jointed M. E. church at Fairbury, Illinois. After coming to Iowa she unit with the Cumberland Presbyterian church and has been a faithful Christian ever since. She was a devoted wife and mother. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, one son, two daughters and eleven grandchildren, also one sister Mrs. Etta Phelps of Seattle, Wash., two brothers Edwin and Adolphus Skinner of Fairbury, Ill. The funeral was conducted by Miss Birdie Batchelor of Nevada at the Pleasant Grove church and the body laid to rest beside her sons in the Pleasant Grove cemetery.
