Orvin Albery Dead; Funeral Wednesday at 2
Orvin O. Albery, 69, died at the Albery family home, 537 Sixth street, at 11 p.m. Sunday night after an illness which dates back to the middle of February. I was not until the first of April, however, that he gave up active business affairs and after a brief period in a Des Moines hospital, had been cared for at the home of his brother Henry P. Albery and wife where he made his home for 32 years.
Funeral services will be held at the residence Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Jos. M. Kennedy of Central Presbyterian church in charge. Burial will be in the family lot in the Nevada cemetery under the ritualistic ceremonies of Central Iowa lodge No. 104 I.O.O.F. of which he had been an active member for 33 years.
Mr. Albery, born on a farm just east of Colo 69 years ago on May 26, came to Nevada with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Henry B. Albery and the brother Henry P. Albery in the fall of 1879 and this had been his home since. The mother was Minerva Barnes before her marriage.
After attending the Nevada schools he worked at various vocations for a number of years but had been engaged in the grocery business here for 30 years. With his brother he had conducted the present Albery grocery at 1110 Main street for 22 years.
He had been active in the affairs of the local Odd Fellows lodge, holding various offices and for the past many years had been on the board of trustees, from which position he resigned but a few months ago because of his failing health.
He had never married and had made his home with his brother Henry following the breaking of the parental home after the death of his parents.
Mr. Albery was a man of quiet disposition, little given to taking any active part in civic or social affairs, but was devoted to his business and his home.
He was a good merchant, honest and upright in his dealings with the public and his integrity was of the highest type.
Having living in Nevada for over three score years, over half of which time he had been in business with close contact with the public, he was well known and highly respected and his death will be mourned by a wide circle of friends and business acquaintances.
Orvin Albery was a good citizen and well filled the niche in life which was allotted to him.
