Mrs. Roy (Ethel) Baldus
A former Story City resident, Mrs. Roy (Ethel) Baldus, 86, died at 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at the hospital in Claremont, Calif., where she had been a patient for a week. She had been ill with cancer for several years.
Ethel Heers was married on Feb. 15, 1912 to Roy Baldus in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Heers of Story City. Thy farmed in Story City area until 1935 when they moved to California. Mrs. Baldus had been living with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Sandford Torkelson, following the death of her husband in 1972.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m. at the Oakdale Memorial Chapel in Clarement, with interment in Oakdale Memorial Park at Glendora, Calif.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sanford (Mildred) Torkelson and Helen Kahle of Indonesia; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one brother, Ray Heers of Owatonna, Minn.; two sisters, Mabel Nelson of Yankton, S.D., and Mary Teig of Ames. Preceding her in death were one son, Robert, her husband, her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
