JOHN O'NEIL DIES SUDDENLY
EXPIRED AS HE WAS DRIVING HIS AUTOMOBILE OUT OF HIS YARD AT HIS RESIDENCE AT COLO
John O'Neil a veteran of the Civil War and a man past seventy in years, died suddenly this morning in Colo his death was entirely unexpected as he was about to drive into the country to visit his two ---------farm when death overtook him. From shat can be learned Mr. O'Neil was driving out of the yard from his home on the west side of Main street when he suddenly felt ill. He called to a passerby for assistance and asked that the physician be summoned. This was done but before the doctor could arrive he was past medical aid.
When help reached the aged man's side, the engine of his car was still running but the car was stationary thereby saving the little town from a gruesome accident.
Mr. O'Neil was one of the oldest residents of Colo and a favorite among the veterans of the civil war, always attending the reunions if possible and taking a great interest in the affairs of the community. He was for several years not physically in the best shape but never complained and seemed to be getting along nicely at the time death overtook him.
For some years he has made his home with his wife in Colo and visited about among his children, two sons, T. S. and Charles O'Neil operating farms outside of town and he had a daughter who is a Mrs. Fisher who resides in the northern part of the state*.
News of his death will be shock to his many friends among the older resident of Story County who knew him as one of the pioneers of this section.
No arrangements for the funeral has been made at press time.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The daughter of John O'Neil was Charity Julia O'Neil who married William Lincoln Fisher on 12 July 1896 in Story County, Iowa.
