REV. A. L. GOLDEN DIES IN DES MOINES
The sudden death of Rev. A. L. Golden Wednesday at his home in Highland Park, Des Moines, is a shock to his very numerous friends in Story county. He had been in his usual health and had worked in his garden in the morning, but late in the forenoon did not feel well and died of heart-failure shortly after noon. He is survived by his widow* and two sons. Mr. Golden was 57 years of age, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Golden*, who were pioneers in Story county, settling in the early days about five miles south of Nevada. It was there that the son who was born during the first Lincoln campaign and named in honor of Abraham Lincoln, was reared. Reaching manhood, his bent was toward the Methodist ministry, in which he enlisted and was very successful, enjoying an excellent series of pastorates, which have now been concluded at Highland Park.
The funeral services of Mr. Golden are bring held at three o'clock today in his own Highland Park M. E. church of which for three years past he had been the successful and beloved pastor. The interment will be in Des Moines.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The widow of Abraham Lincoln Golden was Jennie (Funk) Golden. They were married on 23 August 1888 in Iowa Center, Story County, Iowa. He was the son of William Golden and Mary Frances Callison and she was the daughter of Henry Funk and Nancy Smice. Both sets of parents were pioneers and longtime residents of Story County.
