Hold Final Rites Saturday for Alfred E. Kitchen

Funeral rites for Alfred E. Kitchen, 68, who died at his home southeast of Nevada Thursday morning, were held Saturday afternoon at the Evangelical church in Iowa Center, with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill of Nevada in charge. Burial was in the Iowa Center cemetery.

The services were attended by a large concourse of old neighbors and friends, besides the relatives, all of whom had gathered to pay a final tribute of respect to a father, neighbor and friend.

The following sketch of the life of the deceased was read during the service:

"Alfred Kitchen, son of William and Rachel Kitchen was born April 16, 1871, in Marion County, Indiana. When yet a child with his parents, they moved from Indiana to Iowa and settle in Iowa Center community and there he grew to manhood.

"He first married to Sally Wright. To this union were born six children; two daughters, Lillie and Flossie; four sons, William, Harvey, Clarence and Clifford. Mr. Kitchen and family made their home in Story county and about twenty-four years ago the wife and mother passed away. Mr. Kitchen stayed on the farm and gave his family a home until they made homes for themselves. He was again married to Armille DeWitt and they made their home in Story county. About two years ago, his wife Armille died.

"Mr. Kitchen passed away at his home 2 miles southeast of Nevada at 1:45 a. m. Thursday morning, after a lingering illness, at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 16 days.

"He leaves to mourn his death his six children; Lillie, now Mrs. Smith; Flossie, William, Harvey, Clifford of Nevada and Clarence of Gilman, Iowa, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He leaves also one sister, Mrs. Florence Glascow [sic], one brother Lewis Kitchen of the Iowa Center community and other relatives and a host of friends.

"Mr. Kitchen was a kind and loving husband and father and a good neighbor and was highly respected by all that knew him."
