Girl Dies from Burns Suffered at Farm Home

Special to the Journal:
Gilbert, Oct. 24--Wilma Fossell, age about 20 years, died at the Story City hospital last evening from the effects of burns sustained late Monday afternoon, when she attempted to turn out the flames in an oil burner, in the dining room of the farm home, which her little brother Allen had turned on.

The girl, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fossell who live on a farm midway between Gilbert and Story City, was in the room with the child alone at the time, rushed to turn out the fire, but her hair ignite and soon she was ablaze from the head to her waist line. The little brother rushed out and called the father, who extinguished the blaze and then hurried the girl to the Story City hospital, where she was given all attention possible, but she passed away about 7:45 p. m.

The blaze had been extinguished before any particular damage to the room. The mother was in Ames at the time.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Lutheran church at Gilbert, with Rev. T. T. Heimarck in charge. Burial will be in the south St. Petri cemetery near here.
