Funeral Service at Huxley for Jo Ann Freeland

Huxley, Aug. 7--Funeral services for Jo Ann Freeland who passed away very suddenly at her home Tuesday evening July 25, were held at the Bethany Lutheran church in Kelley Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock following a prayer service at the home at 1:30.

The services were in charge of her pastor Rev. E. R. Rorem who chose for his text Ecclesiastes 12:1, "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth." He was assisted by Rev. G. O. Thompson of Le Mars, who based his text on Deuteronomy 33:27, "Underneath are the everlasting arms."

Miss Mae Ford sang a solo, "Heaven is My Home" following the prayer service at the home. Homer Lewis sang "In the Garden" and Mae Ford and Gladys Rullestad sang two duets, "Good Night and Good Morning" and "It is Well with My Soul."

Pall bearers were Herbert Halverson, Stanley Lynde, Weir Birkestrand, Jr., Lloyd Hally, members of the 1935 graduating class and Rufus Erickson and Burton Nagel, members of her confirmation class.

Interment was in the Slater cemetery south of town.

Jo Ann Freeland was born Nov. 13, 1916, the daughter of John and Julia Freeland and from her childhood, had lived in this community. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith by Rev. P. O. Wee an was confirmed in the Bethany church. She graduate from Huxley high school with the class of 1935. Jo Ann suffered a severe hemorrhage on Tuesday evening July 25, 1939, an died at her home an hour later at the age of 22 years, 8 months and 12 days. She was preceded in death by her father, who passed away eight years ago in June and her brother Glen who died Oct. 1, 1935. She is mourned by her mother, Mrs. Julia Freeland, six sisters, Mrs. John (Pearl) Weeks of Kelley, Mrs. Obert (Mabel) Weeks, and Mrs. Evelyn Sheehey of Des Moines, Mildred, Thelma and Lorraine and one brother Stanley at home besides a host of relatives and friends who are left to mourn the death of this young girl.
