Funeral Services at State Center for Pioneer Woman
State Center, June 5--Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Evans, a resident of State Center for 52 years, who died Thursday at the home of her daughter Mrs. Hoyt W. Parron, were held at the Methodist church here Sunday afternoon, in charge of Rev. Fred A. Smith, of Gladbrook, former pastor here.
Mrs. Evans was born Dec. 29, daughter of Daniel and Margaret Drake Ziegler. In 1876 she moved with her parents to Franklin Grove, Ill., and in 1879 was married to Henry M. Evans at Ashton, Ill. They came to State Center 1887 and Mr. Evans operated a bakery here until his death, in April, 1900. After his death Mrs. Evans continued the business, replacing the bakery with a restaurant which she operated until her retirement in 1925.
Mrs. Evans was a faithful member of the Methodist church for more than 50 years and also of Cleo Chapter, No. 503, Order of the Eastern Star.
he was the mother of nine children, six of whom survive. They are Oscar N. Evans and Mrs. Patton, State Center; Mrs. A. W. Kaiser, Clemons, and Mrs. Harry G. Hopkins, Mrs. Glenn S. Merrill and Mrs. John H. Evans, Marshalltown. She is also survived by two half brothers, Bert Farver, Batavia, Ill., and Harry Farver, Fairchild, Wis.
Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, State Center.
