Farm Worker Despondent, Shot Himself to Death

Nels Bergman a young farm hand; committed suicide at about 3:30 Saturday afternoon by shooting himself with a shotgun at the home of Tom Smith, southeast of Colo, just inside the line in Story county.

Domestic trouble is the reason assigned for the tragic act.

Bergman had been employed by Smith and Saturday afternoon he had been helping with some fence repairing. He had been sent to the house on an errand and while there went into one of the bedrooms of the home and fired the shot, apparently in his mouth as his entire face and the top of his head were blown away.

Guy Mills, Story county coroner was called and after making an investigation, the body was taken to the funeral home at State Center.

Nelson Bergman was born on Sept. 10, 1914, near State Center, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bergman, now living at Ward, S. D. He was married Sept. 16, 1936, to Miss Florence Henze, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Henze of State Center. Besides his widow and parents, he is survived by three brothers and two sisters.
