Funeral Services Held Friday Afternoon for Howard A. Banks
The bier of Howard A. Banks, 66, Nevada man who died suddenly early Wednesday morning at his home here was literally banked with flowers Friday afternoon when a group of relatives and friends that filled the Morfoot Funeral Home to capacity gathered for the funeral services.
The service was in charge of Rev. C. E. Lookingbill and Mrs. C. E. Armstrong at the organ.
Pallbearers were E. S. Armstrong, C. A. Batman, O. O. Albery, L. A. Berka, George Patterson and Chas. Armstrong.
Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.
The life sketch of the deceased read by the minister at the close of the service follows:
Howard A. Banks, eldest son of A. K. and Sarah Banks, was born at Iowa Center, Iowa, November 28, 1872. He departed this life at his home in Nevada at 3:20 a.m., Wednesday morning May 10, 1939 at the age of 66 years, 5 months and 14 days.
He was united in marriage in 1900 to Miss Christine Johnson and to this union was born two children, Lester who preceded him in death about sixteen years ago, and Leona Miller now of Grand Junction, Colorado.
In the year 1919 he was united in marriage to Miss Amy Tillotsen.
Mr. Banks had lived in Iowa all his life and at the age of six years he moved to Nevada with his parents where he had made his home most of the time until his death.
He filled the office of deputy sheriff three terms under his father. He was baggageman on the Northwestern railroad for more than twenty years and he was also marshal of Nevada for four years.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife; one daughter, Leona, now Mrs. Miller of Grand Junction, Colorado; one granddaughter, Earleene Miller of Grand Junction, Colorado, two brothers and two sisters, Art of Nevada, Jay of Nevada; Mrs. Edith Shugart of Nevada and Mrs. Alma Allen of Des Moines, other relatives and a host of friends.
