Imsland Funeral at Bergen Church Thursday Afternoon

McCallsburg, Jan. 14--The funeral of Chris Imsland was held at Bergen's Lutheran church in Roland, Thursday afternoon following a prayer service at the home with his pastor Rev. M. O. Sumstad of Roland in charge. The pall bearers were Carl Caltvedt, John Hauptly, Clarence Osmundson, Lloyd Ellington, Joseph Johnson and Andrew Bergland. The music was furnished by Harris Twedt who sang at the home "Just As I Am" and at the church service, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and a Norwegian song "Den Store Hvide Flok Vi Se" was sung by Otto Hanson.Burial was made in the Roland cemetery. The floral gifts were many and beautiful and several gifts of money were made to missions in his honor.
Chris Imsland, son of Christian and Rachael Imsland was born at Imsland, Norway, Jan. 26, 1893 and died at his home northwest of McCallsburg Jan. 10, 1939, after a lingering illness. He came to Story county with his parents in the fall of 1899.
On February 28 1923 he was united in marriage to Miss Helen Twedt and to this union were born four children Cyrus, 12, Joan 5, Mary Lou 2, and Wilma who died July 11, 1932 aged 1 1/2 years. He leaves, besides his wife and children, his aged mother, two brothers, Berger and Ole residing near McCallsburg and one sister, Mrs. LeRoy Sampson of near Garden City, Ia. All of whom have been at his bed side more or less during the last weeks, assisting Mrs. Imsland care for him.
Mr. Imsland who was only 46 years of age at the time of his death had been in failing health for some time and every effort possible was tried to restore his health but to no avail and he passed away about 10:30 Tuesday forenoon, his passing in the prime of life has cast a shadow of sorrow through the community where he had spent a greater part of his life and was well and favorably known.
His family and relatives have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in the loss of their loved one. The funeral was very largely attended by relatives and friends from surrounding towns and those from a distance were Gaylord Imsland, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Imsland, Mr. and Mrs. John Imsland, Siven Imsland, all of Buckeye, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Knudtson of Radcliffe, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Johnson and Charlotte Gilbert, Mrs. Oliver Anderson, Clifferd and Vernon form Stratfor, Tom Axland from Minneapolis, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Jonas K. Johnson of Randall.
