Nels Ihle Rites In Slater Sept. 7
Funeral services for Nels Ihle, 98, a pioneer resident of the Slater community, were held Tuesday at 2 p.m., Sept. 7 at the Bethel Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Oliver Newman was organist and accompanied Nilus Ihle, nephew of the deceased, who sang "Beneath the Cross of Jesus" and "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say." His pastor Rev. W. A. Adix was the officiating clergyman using as his text Psalm 91:16. Rev. Lewis Malmin of Des Moines, a longtime friend, spoke in tribute to Mr. Ihle.
Pallbearers were his nephews Joe, Amos, Nilus, Kenneth and Otis Ihle, and a neighbor and friend, Milford Ryen.
Interment was made in the Bethlehem Cemetery at Slater.
OBITUARY
Nels Ihle, son of Omund and Martha Ihle, was born in Ilswaag, Norway Dec. 12, 1866 and died at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines Sept. 4,, 1965 at the age of 98 years. He came to Slater from Norway when 21 years old and engaged in farming and well drilling.
On Sept. 12, 1905, he was united in marriage to Nellie Highland, and to them were born four children: Amund, Elizabeth, Cyrus and Everett. They continued to live on a farm north of Slater after his retirement until the illness and death of his wife in April, 1964.
The deceased was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Norway, and had been a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater.
Preceding him in death were his wife; a son, Everett, in World War II; his parents; two sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include his sons, Amund of Slater and Cyrus of Des Moines; a daughter, Elizabeth Hackler, of Collins; three grandchildren - Jack Ihle, Nevada, Ronald Ihle, Slater and Deanna Ihle, Newton; three great grandchildren - Roxanne Ihle, Nevada, Sherri and Scott Ihle, Slater; nieces, nephews and many friends.
