THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, July 16, 2005.
Robert L. Ratliff Sr., 69, of McCallsburg, died Friday, July 15, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames, with burial to follow in the Ontario Cemetery.
Robert L. Ratliff Sr. was born to Joy and Vera (Parke) Ratliff on July 7, 1936, in Park River, N.D. He married Deloris Kvale in Crosby, N.D., on Oct. 4, 1958. He attended school in Park River and graduated from Ames High School in 1954. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1958.
Upon returning to Ames, he worked at the City of Ames power plant and the Ratliff Spudnut Shop. He was an avid fisherman and did beautiful woodworking. He enjoyed all small children and a good joke.
He is survived by his son, Robert L. (Susan) Ratliff Jr. of Montezuma; daughters, Tammy (Mike) Carr of Ames and Deb Dirks of McCallsburg; grandchildren, Chad (Nadia) Carr, Matthew Carr, Jenna Carr, Chris Ratliff, Scott Ratliff, Joe Wilson, Jasmine Dirks; brothers, Richard Ratliff of Ames and Allan Ratliff of Earlham; sisters, Joyce Bennett of Cherokee and Janice Churchill of Longmont, Colo.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1986 and his son, Ricky Ratliff in 1988.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 18, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
