Funeral Services Held Wednesday for Mrs. Nels Jacobson
Story City, May 21 -- Funeral services were in the Gilbert Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon, May 14, at 2 o'clock preceded by services at the home for Mrs. Nels Jacobson who passed away at her home southwest of Story City on May 11. Rev Sacuel Carlsen was in charge of the services and burial was in the St. Petri cemetery near Gilbert. Phillip Askevold sang a solo at the church.
Martha Hanson, daughter of John and Anna Hanson, was born in Kvindherred, Norway, on May 14, 1867. With her parents she came to America when she was five years old and settled in Story county. Here she was instructed in Christian faith in the Lutheran church, being confirmed by Rev. Amlund of Story City.
On July 8, 1888 she was married to Nels Jacobson in the St. Petri church in Story City. The first few years of their married life whey lived in Woodbury county near Kingsly. They moved back to the Gilbert community in Story county where they lived until their death. They were active members in the St. Petri Lutheran church. They lived on th present Nels Jacobson farm since 1898. Mr. Jacobson passed away December 22, 1921.
Six children were born to them. John who died in 1922, Mrs. Edward Anderson, who passed away last January 22, and Jacob Neal, Mrs. Emil Peterson and Anna who survive and mourn the loss of a dear, faithful and devoted mother. Mrs. Jacobson is also survived by six grandchildren, two sister, Mrs. Peter Wierson of Williston, N. D., and Mrs. Belle Bush of Northfield, Minn., three brothers, Brint Hanson of Story City, Lew of Gilbert and Martin of Billings, Mont.
Mrs. Jacobson had been ill since June. Last summer and fall her illness was accompanied with much suffering. Through it all she manifested patience, kept loving interest and concern for her family, and trusted in Christ her redeemer. In trusting faith she died Sunday morning, May 11, at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 27 days.
