Funeral Services for Mrs. Hans C. Granseth Sunday Afternoon

Slater, April 17 -- Funeral services for Mrs. Hans C. Granseth were held Sunday afternoon. A brief prayer service was held at the home at 2 o'clock in charge of Rev. Onstad who also sang "Rock of Ages."

Services were held at the Bethlehem Lutheran church at 2:30 o'clock in charge of Rev. P. E. Onstad.

The many beautiful floral offerings paid silent tribute to the memory of a departed friend. The flowers were arranged by Mrs. Freebert Riis and Miss Marie Folgero.

Relatives and friend presented gift of money to home and foreign missions, Jewish mission, Sunset Home, W.C.A.L. radio station, St. Olaf college, Northfield, Minn., and to the chime fund of the Bethlehem church in memory of Mrs. Granseth.

A duet, "Jesus Saviour Pilot Me" was sung by Willis and Bob Muchow of Sioux Falls, S. D., Rev. P. E. Onstad sang a solo, "Behold the Host Arranged in White," Homer Lewis sang "In the Garden" and Willis Muchow sang a solo, "Be Still My Soul."

The pall bearers were: Melvin Brown of Story City, Donald Brown of Ames, Milo Jorgenson and John Brown of Des Moines, and Truman Brown and Herbert Sheldahl of Slater. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.

Anna Margaretha Brown was born January 21, 1877, on a farm north of the Palestine church and passed away at her home in Slater on Friday, April 11, 1947, at the age of 70 years, 2 month and 21 days. Her parents were Martin and Enger Brown. She was baptized on February 4, 1877 and confirmed November 8, 1891, in the First Evangelical Lutheran church in Sheldahl by Rev. Osmund Sheldahl, her grandfather. She was united in marriage to Hans Granseth of Bode, Iowa, September 28, 1898 by Rev. A. L. Huus. For several years they made their home in North Dakota, South Dakota and northern Iowa. In 1908 they returned to Slater and have since lived here.

Four children blessed their union, two sons and two daughters.

She had been failing in health for several years. She suffered a stroke on April 10 from which she never rallied. She pent the time before she became unconscious in praying for her soul and for her husband and children.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters (Gladys) Mrs. Roy Cole of Slater, (Orpha) Mrs. Elvin Soderstrom of Madrid and a son, Kermit Granseth, of Ames, four grandchildren, Wayne Cole of Bedford, (Bonnie) Mrs. Everett Lewis of Slater, Karen and Linda Soderstrom of Madrid; two brothers, Ossie Brown of Slater and Edward Brown of Ames; two sisters, (Eloise) Mrs. Clarence Neslund of Des Moines and Miss Marie Brown of Slater. She was preceded in death by her parents, a step mother, two brothers, John and Milford, two sisters, Carolyn and Anna, a son Milford, who passed away at the age of 15 years, and a half brother, Arthur Brown.

She grew to womanhood and spent most of her life in the Slater community. She has always been a member of the Lutheran church and attended whenever she was physically able. She lived a Christian life and was a devoted wife and mother. Her main thought was for her spiritual welfare and for her family. Due to ill health she had been unable to take part in outside activities.

Among the out of town relatives present at the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Soderstrom and family of Madrid, Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Granseth, Edward Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Brown of Ames, Wayne Cole of Bedford, Mrs. Gina Muchow, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Muchow and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Muchow all from Sioux Falls, S. D.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Granseth of Forest City, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Granseth and Helen of Podhaski; Ed Granseth of Cedar Falls, Mr. and Mrs. George Cole and family of Jewell, Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Neslund, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Arland, Mr. and Mrs. Milo Jorgenson, Mr. and Mrs. John brown and Miss Carrie Larson of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Brown of Story City and Mrs. Anna Jones and Floyd of Redfield.
