Mrs. C. Ferkin, Roland Pioneer, Taken by Death

Roland, Feb. 18 -- Mrs. Caroline Ferkin, longtime Roland resident died at 9 o'clock Monday morning at her home here of old age and complications. She was nearly 85 years old.

Last rites will be held Thursday afternoon with a short prayer service at the home at 1:30 followed by services at the Bergen Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Allen Nelson will be in charge. Burial will be in Roland cemetery.

Mrs. Ferkin was born April 17, 1862, in Kendall county, Ill., the daughter of Elias and Taraan Johnson, and came to Iowa settling in Roland in 1865.

She was united in marriage with P. O. Ferkin Oct. 15, 1894. Her husband died in 1920.

Mrs. Ferkin is survived by two foster-children: Howard Ferkin, Marshalltown, and Mrs. A. R. Rankin, Zearing; two grandchildren: Mrs. Clyde Clark, Reinbeck and James Ferkin, Marshalltown; one great grandson: Dickie Clark, Reinbeck; one sister: Mrs. M. O. Ferkin, Nevada, and two brothers: Eli and Arnie, both of Roland, the later of which lived with the deceased since 1924.
