HEART TROUBLE CAUSES DEATH OF MRS. DAYTON
Illness Started With Slight Cold New Year's Day; Death is Shock to Relatives and Friends Here.
Mrs. Helen Dayton, mother of A. L. Dayton, died suddenly at her home here Monday night at 9:45 o'clock as a result of heart trouble.
She was taken ill with a cold on New Year's day, when she visited at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Starbuck, in Vernon Center, Minn., where she had visited for seven weeks.
Her death is quite a shock to her relatives and friends here, as she had not been seriously ill, apparently, at any time since returning from Minnesota, despite the fact that she was bothered with a cold.
When the doctor visited her at 8 o'clock Monday night her pulse was strong and she had little temperature. She died shortly afterwards.
Mrs. Dayton was 72 years old September 13, 1920, and was very active despite her advanced years. She did all her own work and earned the responsibility of household duties on her shoulders.
Mrs. Dayton's husband died fourteen years ago today.
Her maiden name was Helen A. White and she was born at Sycamore, De Kalb county, Illinois. On October 25, 1865, she was married to Louis M. Dayton, at Sycamore. Here this couple lived for several years, coming to Story county in 1881, during the month of March.
They settled on a farm near Colo, but in the spring of 1890 removed to Nevada, and Mrs. Dayton has resided here since that time.
Mrs. Dayton was a devoted member of the Methodist church and was also very active in church work until her illness.
Four children are living, and are William H. Dayton of Abiline, Kan.; Mrs. Carrie Elwood and Arthur L. Dayton of Nevada, and Mrs. Helen Starbuck of Vernon Center, Minn.
The children will all be here, with the possible exception of Mrs. Starbuck, who is ill.
Grandchildren living are: Mrs. Florence Goodwin, Mrs. Carrie Dayton, Miss Ines Dayton, Howard Dayton, Harland Dayton, Mrs. Iradel Gibbs, Mrs. Blanche Griffith and Donald Dayton.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church and will be in charge of Rev. R. M. Shipman, with prayer at the home, preceding.
Burial will be made in the Nevada cemetery.
