Funeral Services for Miss Olive Johnson

Special to the Journal.
Slater, Oct. 19--Funeral services for Miss Olive Johnson were held at the home of her mother, Mrs. Rachel Johnson, at 1 o'clock, Friday afternoon and 2 o'clock at the Hauges Free church. The services were in charge of her pastor, Rev. Alfred Knutson. Miss Irma Sydnes of Des Moines sang "The Mercy Seat" and "Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus." The floral offerings were unusually beautiful and numerous. The pall bearers were T. W. Rawson, Andrew Maland, E. C. Rood, Lawrence Grunstad, A. L. Peterson and H. B. Thompson. Interment was made in the Palestine cemetery.

Olive T. Johnson was born December 17, 1883, near Huxley. Her parents were John and Rachel Johnson. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and later confirmed in 1898. In the year 1899 the family moved to Slater where they have made their home since that time. Miss Olive was a faithful member of the Hauges Free church. An active member in the Willing Workers society and taught in the Sunday school for a number of years. She is survived by her mother, two sisters, Miss Rebekah Johnson of Rochester, Minn., Miss Emma Johnson of Des Moines, three brothers Melvin F. of Webster City, J. E. of Cedar Rapids, and Austin of Springfield, Mass. All were present at the services with the exception of the latter.

Among those from out of town at the services were Mr. and Mrs. Bayard Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Knute Apland, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Freeland of Cambridge, Misses Marie Lande and Irma Sydnes of Des Moines, Mrs. O. F. Freed of Huxley, Mrs. Ella Larson and son Leslie of Ames.
