Colo Pioneer Was Found Dead in His Garage
Special to the Journal.
Colo, Dec. 29--Fred Cerka, 69, long time resident of Colo, was found dead in his automobile standing within the closed garage at his home here today, about 11:30, by his daughter, Mrs. Maynard Jackson and husband, when they drove up to the Cerka home. The body was still warm, death having been due to carbon monoxide gas poisoning from the exhaust of the car. The gas tank of the car was dry when the daughter found him, although the engine was still turned on.
The body was taken to the Morfoot Funeral home at Nevada to await funeral arrangements, which will probably be held on Sunday afternoon.
The decased was born in Chicago and would have been 69 years of age on February 9. He had been a resident of this community for many years. Mrs. Cerka died about 3 months ago, since which time he had been living alone here.
He leaves three sons, John of Davenport, Ray of Long Beach and Earl of Chicago and one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Jackson of Rhodes.
He also leaves his brothers Ben, Frank and Henry of the Zearing neighborhood and a sister Mrs. Ballinger of the same community.
