SUDDEN DEATH OF ZEARING WOMAN

MRS. EDD REED VICTIM OF PARALYTIC STROKE EARLY TODAY

Special to the Journal.
Zearing, Nov. 19--Mrs. Edd Reed, 75, long-time woman of this community, is dead at the family home here today, as a result of a stroke of paralysis suffered late Friday afternoon.

The news of her death came as a distinct shock to the community, Mrs. Reed having been in her usual health until the stroke laid her low.

During the absence of her daughter Mrs. Buryle Lane from the home, Mrs. Reed had gone out to care for the chickens. When Mrs. Lane returned home, Mr. Reed, an invalid, said that the mother had been gone for some time. The daughter went to the chicken yard, where she found the mother helpless from a paralytic stroke.

She was taken to the house and a physician called, but she died this morning at 4:30.

The deceased was born near Otsego, in Mahoning county, Ohio, January 2, 1857, a daughter of Homer and Ellen Holcomb. The family came to Iowa when she was a girl locating first in Marshall county and later coming over to Illinois Grove, northeast of Zearing, where she was married to Edd Reed January 20, 1875. They lived in that neighborhood until 29 years ago, when they moved to Zearing.

The only son, Charles Reed died May 7, 1907, and she leaves her husband who is now an invalid; the only daughter Mrs. Lane; two grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and two brothers, William Holcomb of near Zearing and Charles Holcomb of Otsego, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon and in the meantime the body will lie in state at the Brouhard Funeral home here.
