Mother of Seventeen Will Be Buried Wednesday Afternoon
Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Mitchell, 88, who died at her home 1823 Fourth street, Monday afternoon will be held at the Morfoot Funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, after which the funeral party will drive to Iowa Center, where interment will be in Evergreen cemetery by the side of the husband who died 24 years ago.
Mrs. Mitchell, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Carr, was born in Indiana, December 11, 1844. She was united in marriage to Silas N. Mitchell in Indiana and the family came out to Iowa about 60 years ago.
The family home had been around Iowa Center until about 29 years ago when the old people moved to Nevada and the husband, a Civil War veteran, died 24 years ago.
Seventeen children were born to this couple, four of whom survive the parents. In addition to the children born the the they took one of their grandchildren into the home and raised her to womanhood. The surviving children are George Mitchell of Nevada, Mrs. Sam Townsend of Nevada, Mrs. John Townsend of Newton and Mrs. George See of Colo. The granddaughter raised in the home is now Mrs. Iver Banks of Colo.
Rev. L. LeRoy Kinser will be in charge of the funeral service.
