SUDDEN DEATH OF NEVADA WOMAN

MRS. JOSEPHINE BRIGGS PASSED AWAY AT HOME ON EAST LINCOLN

A distinct shock came to the community early Sunday, when it became known that Mrs. Josephine Briggs, 68, had died very suddenly at her home just east of city of Lincoln highway.

Mrs. Briggs who with her brother, Frank Welch as a companion, lived in her home just east of town, had been in her usual health until about a week ago when she was taken ill. Nothing serious was anticipated and Sunday morning she was awake and ate the breakfast that her brother had prepared for her. A few minutes later Mr. Welch returned to her room to find her sitting up in her bed, but dead.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at 9:30 at the Morfoot Funeral Home, with her pastor W. O. Benthin of Central Presbyterian church in charge.

The body, attended by her brother Frank, will be conveyed to the Northwestern station, where it will leave at 11:35 for the old family home in New York, burial to be in the Union cemetery at Trumanburg, New York.

Mrs. Josephine E. (Welch) Briggs was born Nov. 4, 1864. The place of her birth was near Searsburg in Schuyler county, New York. She spent the first half of her years in the vicinity. On August 25, 1897 at Trumansburg, N. Y. she was married to William Freeman Briggs of Nevada. She then spent about the last half of her years at Nevada, Iowa, making her home most of this time on the farm immediately east of this place. Her husband passed away on December 27. 1921. Since then she has continued making her home here, visiting back and forth with relatives in the Empire state.

As a girl she was one of the eight children of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Welch. Of these three survive her a brother [Willis Y. Welch] at Clarion, Pennsylvania, her brother Frank of Nevada, Iowa and the sister Mrs. Jennie Van Order of Ithaca, New York.

The deceased became a member of Central Presbyterian church of this place and in this church she kept an active interest associating in some of the auxiliary organizations for women. She was particularly inclined to quietly do something for childhood and youth and thus help young life on the right way.

In this sudden and shocking death the many knew her will miss a quiet and true Christian friend. Her wholesome influence is living on in many lives.
