MRS. LARS JENSEN FUNERAL TUESDAY
GRANT TOWNSHIP WOMAN DIED LATE SATURDAY NIGHT
Mrs. Lars Jensen, 68, of Grant township died at Iowa sanitarium Saturday night at 11:50, after a long period of ill health which had culminated in a gangrenous condition which had necessitated the amputation of one limb, on Monday, June 13.
Her illness had become serious about three weeks ago and it was two weeks ago that she was taken to Iowa sanitarium, where everything possible was done to ward off the necessity of amputation. Following the operation she gradually grew weaker until the death messengers call her late Saturday.
Mette Marie Nelson, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Nelson, was born December 16, 1863 at Boring, Denmark. She came to America and to Story county in June, 1884 and was united in marriage November 2 of that year, to Lars Jensen, who had preceded her from Denmark the year before. The marriage took place in the Lutheran church of Nevada.
They have made their home near Nevada since their marriage and seven children were born to the marriage. These with the husband survive the wife and mother.
The children are: Mrs. V. I. Appelgate of near Shipley; Mrs. Ira Appelgate of Northwood; John Jensen of Tama; Harve Jensen of Nevada; Mrs. Glen Stratton of near Fernald; Loyd Jensen of near Shipley and Mrs. Omar Farren of Colo.
She leaves 20 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, also one sister, Mrs. Sophia Ingerson of Zearing. All will be present for the funeral with the exception of two granddaughters, Miss Lola Jensen, who is in nurses training in Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. F. B. Purvis of Chicago, whose health would not permit her to be present.
Mrs. Jensen after raising her own family, took into her home a niece, Miss Leota Ingerson and has made a home for her. Miss Ingerson will continue to live in the home.
Nr, and Mrs. Lars Jensen lived the first six years of married life in Grant township. They then moved on the McCall farm in Richland, where they lived eight years. They then moved onto the place where they now live in Grant township, which has been their home for 33 years.
Mrs. Jensen was a woman with a fine spirit. She always was inclined toward the better things of life and by nature she was gifted with a cheerful disposition, which enabled her to always look on the bright side of life.
By birth and training Mrs. Jensen was reared in the faith of the Lutheran church. She was a member of the Memorial Lutheran church in Nevada until the time of her parting.
Mrs. Jensen's funeral services will be Tuesday afternoon at 1:45 at the late home and 2:30 from Memorial Lutheran church. Interment will be in the Nevada cemetery.
