Woodward Funeral Was Held at Colo

Special to the Journal.
Colo, June 18--Many relatives and friends from a distance were present at the funeral of F. J. Woodward, 73, which were held in Colo, the service being in charge of his pastor.

The music was furnished by the choir of the Methodist Episcopal church, and the flowers were in charge of Mrs. Fay White, and Mrs. Elsie Dickenson. The pallbearers were B. F. Shenkle, W. A. Shenkle, Ned Stuntz, C. A. Dickenson, E. G. Schoonover and H. S. White.

Franklin James Woodward, son of Charles H. and Wealthy A. Woodward, was born January 2, 1859, in Plainfield, Ill., and died at his home near Colo, on June 2, 1932, at the age of 73 years and five months.

When a small boy he came to Iowa with his parents, who settled near State Center. In this vicinity he grew to manhood and spent the greater part of his life.

On May 27, 1885, he was married to Miss Geraldine Van Pelt, who passed away April 24, 1911. On April 28, 1920, he was united in marriage with Miss Florence Sawtell. They established their home on the Old Sawtell homestead south of Colo, where he resided until his death.

Surviving him are his widow, an adopted daughter, Mrs. Edna Oldfield of St. Paul, Minnesota, a brother, Home of Utica, Neb., a sister, Mrs. Tillie Alexander of Revere, Minn., two grandchildren, five nieces and two nephews.

Mr. Woodward was always respected in the communities in which he lived. In his family life he was ever thoughtful of the comfort and happiness of the members of his household.

The deceased was a man of noble Christian character, a good neighbor and true friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed in the community in which he lived. Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Alexander of Revere, Minn., an aged aunt Mrs. Georgia Woodward and two sons William and Charles Woodward of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Gray of Rhodes, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Woodward, State Center, W. A. Sawtell and family, Marshalltown, C. H. Sawtell, Ames.
