Townsend Funeral Monday Afternoon
Funeral services for Mrs. J. E. Townsend, 63, who died at her home here Saturday, were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church, with her pastor, Rev. George Lawton in charge. Interment was in the Nevada cemetery.
Henrietta Jordan was born Feb. 20, 1869 and passed away at her home, June 11, 1932 at the age of 63 years, 3 months and 22 days.
Her girlhood was spent in Vernon county, Wisconsin. When a young woman she moved to Iowa and on Feb. 16, 1898 was united in marriage to J. E. Townsend of Estherville, Iowa. Three years later they moved to Hillsboro, Wis., where they resided for five years. At the end of this time they again made their home in Iowa, and she spent the remainder of her life in and near Nevada.
Four children were born to them. The oldest son, Charles died in April 1921, aged 22 years. There are left to mourn her sudden passing, her husband, also two sons, Ray of Nevada, Floyd of Oklahoma City, her daughter, Mrs. Tom Wilson of Nevada, five grandchildren, a brother O. B. Jordan of Tomahawk, Wis., also a wide circle of neighbors and friends.
She was affiliated with the Royal Neighbors of America for a number of years.
SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Per her death record, Henrietta "Etta" (Bates) Townsend was born the daughter of Mr. Bates and Martha Bundy. The 1880 Greenwood, Vernon County, Wisconsin census lists Henrietta as "Henrietta Jordan" with her brother "Otto Jordan" as the adopted children of William Jordan and his wife Rachel (McClain) Jordan.
