RHODES - James A. Hale, 75, of Rhodes, died Thursday, June 5, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center.
Services will be at Rhodes United Methodist church at 1:30 P.M. Friday with the Rev. Beverlee Bell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Eden Cemetery at Rhodes with military honors by the Rhodes American Legion.
Friends may call at the Wensel-Perrin Funeral Home in State Center after 1 P.M. Thursday and the family will greet friends there from 7 to 8 P.M. Thursday. A memorial fund is being established.
Mr. Hale was born Sept 7, 1914 in Rhodes to Fred and Maud Richmond Hale. He graduated from Rhodes High School in 1931. He was employed as the postmaster in Rhodes for 10 years, retiring in 1977. In 1937 he married Dollie Stewart and she died in 1980. On Oct. 16, 1981 he married Lucille VanCleave and they lived in Rhodes.
Mr. Hale served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Rhodes United Methodist Church, Rhodes American Legion, the 40x8, Rhodes Volunteer Fire Dept, and was on the board of directors for the Rhodes Retirement Home.
Preceding him in death was his first wife. Survivors include his second wife, Lucille of Rhodes, a son and three daughters, Jerry Hale of Virginia Beach, Va., Jean Pfantz of State Center, Joan (Mrs. Jack) Cardani of Boone and Vicki (Mrs. Reggie) Eldridge of Melbourne, seven grandchildren, a great grandson and a sister, Kate Malechek of Marshalltown.

Dad graduated from Rhodes High School in 1931. He was the postmaster in Rhodes, IA for 10 years (1967-1977). He died at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center, Marshalltown, Iowa of complications of lung cancer, cirrhosis and emphysema and is buried in the Eden Cemetery east of Rhodes.
He married Lucille Van Cleave on October 16, 1981.
