THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, July 5, 2005.

Charles Pratt, 78, of Jewell, died Thursday, June 30, at home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell with the Rev. Randy Abell of Heartland Baptist Church in Ames officiating.

Charles Emmett Pratt was born June 27, 1927, in Des Moines to Charles A. and Juanita Pratt. He grew up in Des Moines and served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force during World War II. He married Doris Ellen Farris Dec. 12, 1949, in Des Moines. They lived in the Story City and Jewell area for 37 years. He was a heavy equipment operator for Manatt's. He retired in 1989.

He is survived by two sons, Michael Pratt of Des Moines and David Pratt of Ames; four daughters, Jackie McGrady of Tennessee, Sharon Hobt of St. Petersburg, Fla., Deb Saulsbury Pratt of Jewell and Bonnie Pratt of Ames; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne E. Pratt of Dows; and two sisters, Bonnie Bartlett of Alamo, Texas, and Charlotte Johnstone of Zansfield, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris in 1999; and one brother, Richard A. Pratt.
