Funeral Services for H. J. Harrison Tuesday Afternoon
Funeral services for H. J. Harrison, 65, Grant township farmer who died at his home south of Nevada Sunday afternoon from the effects of a stroke late Friday afternoon, were held Tuesday at 2:30 at the home.
The service was in charge of Rev. C. E. Lookingbill of Nevada and was largely attended. In fact it was one of the largest home funerals held in the community in years. Interment was in the Nevada cemetery. Music was by Mrs. Inez Lough.
Henry James Harrison was the eldest son of Henry James and Mary Harrison, born at Juneau, Wisconsin, August 22, 1868.
He came with his parents to Iowa when but two years of age, the family settling on a farm seven miles south of Nevada, in the Jefferson neighborhood where his childhood days were spent and where he grew to manhood.
He was united in marriage to Luella Myers [should be Ruella Myers], March 1, 1891 and they had their first home on what has long been known as the C. D. Barker place. There they resided for two years and then located on the Silliman farm two miles north where they continued to live for 23 years moving on their own farm west of there fifteen years ago.
Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Harrison, two of whom with the wife survive the father. The survivors are Orville and Marion.
The son Chester died in 1918 at the age of 25 years of age and three of the children died in infancy.
Besides the wife and two sons he leaves to mourn his departure seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Two of the grand children are daughters of the deceased daughter Mrs. Glasgow, Mable of Ames and Mrs. Lee Bates of Nevada. Both left motherless made their home with their grandparents for a number of years.
He also leaves a number of brothers and sisters all of whom are known in the community.
"Jim" Harrison as he was familiarly known to his neighbors and friends, was a man of fine character, kind and charitable, broad in his views and a kind and considerate husband and father.
He will be greatly missed not only in his own family but by a wide circle of neighbors and friends.
