Swenson Funeral Monday Afternoon

McCallsburg, Oct. 25--The funeral for George Swenson, 44, who died Thursday, was held Monday from the Lutheran church in McCallsburg Rev. H. N. Bakke in charge. He was buried with full military honors.A quartet composed of Mrs. Berger Imsland, Mrs. Ray Skartvedt, Otis Helland and Curtis Ritland, with Mrs. O. E. Ritland at the piano, sang two songs "Face to Face" and "Throw Out the Lifeline." The pastor spoke on Genesis 4:8-10, stressing our responsibility for conditions in one's neighborhood, and that the strong should remove the stumbling blocks from before the weak.
There was a large audience present The floral offerings were beautiful. The remains were laid to rest in the Warren township cemetery. The pall bearers were Jake Mein, W. S. Lorenzen, Wesley Springer, Kernel Lenning, Carl Handeland and Jonas Olson. Color guard, Ivan Johnson, B. M. Bergland and Claude Ruckman. Firing squad, Henry Sevde, Henry Opstvedt, Otis Twedt, Carl Twedt, N. Catron and Oscar Jacobson. Bugler Samuel Nelson, sergeant-at-arms John Caltvedt.
George Peter Swenson, older son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Swenson, was born in LaSalle county, Ill., on the 15th day of February 1892. He was baptized in the Lisbon church by Rev. P. A. Rasmusson. He moved with his parents to Iowa in 1893, and live near Roland where he grew to manhood and was confirmed in the Zion Lutheran church by Rev. J. N. Sandven.
He served overseas as a soldier in Company 126, Engineers during the World war. He was married to Miss Esther Gable on March 27, 1920 and has lived in McCallsburg since.
He passed away Thursday evening Oct. 19, at the age of 44 years and 8 months and 4 days, and leaves to mourn his death his wife, Mrs. Esther Swenson, one daughter, Eva, his mother, one brother and five sisters., Mrs. Betsey M. Swenson, Keneal, Misses Birdella and Josie of Nevada, Miss Cecelia of Ames, Mrs. Iver Skrovig and Mrs. Lewis Hanson of Kamrar. His father and one sister preceded him in death.
Among those in attendance at the funeral from out of town were Mrs. Sam Swenson, Mr. and Mrs. Keneal Swenson, Birdella, Dollie and Cecelia Swenson, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ackerman, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ackerman, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Suddeth, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hughes, Beulah Meyers, Mrs. J. E. Jacobson all of Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Iver Skrovig and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hanson and family of Kamrar; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Knudtson and family of Alden; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Skrovig of Marshalltown; Henry Alvestad and family and Henry Alvestad of Jewell; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Skrovig, William Hodnefield an daughter, Mrs. John Sampson and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Osmund Tungesvig and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Berwiki of Radcliffe, and quite a number from the Roland and surrounding towns.
