Peterson Funeral Sunday at Slater

Slater, Sept. 14--Funeral services for Mrs. Esther E. Peterson, whose tragic death occurred in an automobile accident, were held on Sunday afternoon in Slater, one o'clock at the home and 1:30 o'clock at the Bethlehem church. The services were in charge of her pastor, Rev. G. C. Swan of the Methodist church. He was assisted by Rev. E. P. Swan of the Union Park M. E. church in Des Moines and Rev. E. R. Rorem of the Bethlehem church.

All spoke in loving tribute to the memory of one who had been so loyal to her faith, to the church and the community. The floral offerings were unusually beautiful and numerous, coming from relatives and friends near and far. The same musical number were used as those given at the burial of her beloved husband nine months ago and were repeated by the request of her daughter. Rev. Swain sang "No Night There," "In the Garden" by Miss Ruth Halverson, and "Rock of Ages" and "Near, Near to Thee" by the men's chorus.

The pall bearers were: Charles Rupp of West Chicago, John Warren of Carroll, Emil Teander of Des Moines, Swan Shaeffer of Stratford, Archie Peterson of Slater and Albert Fallein of Perry. The funeral was the largest ever held here, the church was filled to the utmost capacity, the church lawn was also filled. Amplifiers had been installed for the basement and outside making it possible for everyone to hear the services.

Esther Elizabeth Fallein was born January 22, 1885 on a farm near Stratford, Iowa, and died September 6, 1933, at Slater, at the age of 48 years, 7 months and 15 days. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Fallein of Stratford. At the age of 8 years she moved with her parents to Webster city, where her father held the position of county auditor for two years. He died on the day of his re-election to that office. After his death the family moved to Stratford where she attended high school, graduating in 1902. In 1909 she graduated from the conservatory of music at Morningside college, Sioux City. She then took postgraduate work under Emil Leibling at Kimball Hall, Chicago. She was successful in lyceum and chautauqua work for several years.

Her marriage to Henry L. Peterson of Slater took place February 26, 1914, at her home in Stratford. They made their home in Slater where he was engaged in the clothing business, first with his father and later with his brother, Archie.

Two children came to bless their home, Henrietta Mae and Stanley Fallein.

She was a member of the M. E. church and began at the early age of 12 to use her musical talent as organist. She served both the Stratford and the Slater Methodist churches in that capacity. She otherwise took an active interest in church work and gave generously of her time and talent to all. She passed away with an implicit faith and confidence in the saving power of the One she had worshipped in life. She was a lover of home and home life and her piano was her constant companion. Scattered over the country are hundreds of her piano pupils, many of them grown to motherhood.

In her death the community had been deprived of of one of its most beloved and highly esteemed women, one who was eminently successful in her effort to to make the world better and whose memory will long be revered by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband who died November 29, 1932. She leaves to mourn her loss her two children, Henrietta Mae, age 17, Stanley Fallein, age 13. Her mother, Mrs. A. G. Celander, her sister Mrs. E. M. Teander and brothers Ellis Fallein of Des Moines and Elmer Falleim of Denver, besides a host of relatives and friends. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the cemetery near Stratford. Among the relatives from a distance who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Fallein and Gladys Fallein of Denver, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Celander, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Teander and family, Ellic Fallein of Des Moines, Charles Rupp and sons Wilbur and Charles I., of West Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Warren and Helen of Carroll, Mr. and Mrs. Swan Shaeffer and family of Stratford.
