Funeral Services for Mrs. Belle Swenson

Roland, Feb. 3--The funeral of Mrs. Belle Swenson was held at the Lutheran church Saturday afternoon with the pastor, Rev. H. N. Bakke in charge. The pall bearers were Elwood Vald, Clifford Vlad, Lloyd Swenson, Elmer Swenson, Earl Quam and Wilmer Hanson.

The music was furnished by Mrs. Ray Skartvedt and Mrs. Berger Imsland, Miss Rose Quam and O. S Boyd and Randall Hatteberg. Burial was in the Zion church cemetery.

Barbara Mangelia Thompson was born june 10, 1858 in Fjeldberg, near Hausund, Norway. At the age of six she came to America with her parents, who settled near Morris, Ill.

In 1879 she was married to Gunnar Swenson, coming to Iowa in 1885, making Roland her home for many years, but the last 20 years she had lived in McCallsburg.

Shortly before Christmas she went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Axel Vald near Ellsworth for an extended visit, where on Friday, Jan. 30 she was taken ill with erysipalis and died on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the age of 74 years.

She is survived by one brother, Thomas Thompson of Stanley, Wis., one sister, Mrs. Martha Swenson of Radcliffe, besides a number of other relatives. Two sisters and two brothers having preceded her in death.
