Special to the Journal.
Colo, Jan. 30--Funeral services were held this afternoon for Jasper Myers, 64, Colo man who died at his home here Saturday morning. The services were in the Evangelical church, after which interment was in the Colo cemetery by the side of the wife, who died 9 years ago.Jasper Myers, son of William and Eliza Myers, was born in Indianapolis, Ind., July 15, 1868 and departed this life on Saturday morning, January 28, 1933 aged 64 years, 6 months, 13 days.
He was married to Mary Francis Lee August 22, 1889 at Cambridge, Iowa. This union was blessed with 13 children, one of whom died in infancy and another of whom died in the years when she was just reaching young womanhood. Nine sons survive. They are: Jake of Nevada; and Ray, Earl, Virgil, Doyle and Lawrence, all of Colo, Iowa. Two daughters are also living: Mrs. James Gaves and Miss Myrtle Myers, both of Pontiac, Mich.
Mrs. Myers preceded him in death nine years ago. Since that time he has been making the best effort possible to carry on his farming activities. For the past five years ill health has constantly made his life hard to bear. For the ten days before his passing it was necessary for him to be confined to the bed.
When he was about a year old his parents moved to Iowa, settling at Spring Hill, Warren county. Mr. Myers grew up in that community and later moved to Colo in 1887. Following that year he lived in various places in Story county, chiefly at Ames and Colo. In 1917 under the ministry of Rev. W. C. McKinley, he and Mrs. Myers and two of their children became members of Calvary Evangelical church of Colo, in which church he worked until ill health made it difficult for him to attend the services.
Besides numerous friends and neighbors who will miss him he is survived by several nieces and nephews and by four brothers and one sister: Alonzo of Ames; Charles of Custer City, Oklahoma; Henry of Des Moines; Lafe of Colo and Mrs. A. A. Allen of Laurens, Iowa. He also had ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Services were in charge of Rev. G. O. Thompson, of Calvary Evangelical church. Interment in the Colo cemetery.
