Funeral Services Held on Sunday for Lars Jensen

Funeral services for Lars Jensen, 76, Grant township farmer, who died here Friday morning, were held Sunday afternoon at Memorial Lutheran church with his pastor, Dr. J. O. Simon in charge.

Interment was in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the wife who had passed away on June 18, 1932.

The services were well attended by relatives and old neighbors and friend, attesting the high esteem that the deceased was held in the community in which he had lived for over half a century.

Lars Jensen, 76, passed away at the Iowa Sanitarium Friday morning after an illness of about four weeks. He suffered a stroke of apoplexy Nov. 30 and since that time his condition has grown gradually weaker. On Sunday he was moved to Iowa Sanitarium and it was there he passed away.

Lars Jensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jens Jensen, was born at Molkje, near Horsens, Denmark, May 12, 1859. He came to America in April, 1883, and was married to Mette Marie Nelson, Nov. 2, 1884, in the Lutheran church in Nevada. To this union seven children were born.

He leaves to mourn his death three sons and four daughters, and one brother. The wife and mother preceded him in death June 18, 1932.

The sons are John Jensen of Tama, Harve and Lloyd Jensen of Nevada; the daughters are Mrs. G. I. Applegate of Northwood, Iowa; Mrs. V. I. Stratton of Nevada and Mrs. Omar Farren of Colo. One brother, Pete Jensen of West Bend, Iowa, is living. Also 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Jensen lived their first six years in Grant township. They then moved ono the McCall farm in Richland township where they resided for eight years and then moved on to the place which has been the family home for 36 years.

By birth and training, Mr. Jensen was reared in the faith of the Lutheran church. He was a member of Memorial Lutheran church at the time of his death.

Mr. Jensen also served as township trustee for a period of twenty years and he served on the school board of Shipley for many years.
