Funeral Services for Mrs. L. D. Shearer

Special to the Journal.
Collins, Dec. 9--Funeral services for the late Mrs. L. D. Shearer, who passed away Thursday at 3:15 p. m., were held in the Collins Methodist church Saturday afternoon Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p. m. Rev. Ray Thompson of the U. B. church was in charge of the service. A quartet composed of Mrs. H. R. Sokol, Mrs. O. H. Gearhart, J. G. Gingles and J. R. Witmer, wit Mrs. E. R. Cope at the piano, sang "Have Thine Own Way Lord" and "In the Garden." The solo "Face to Face" was sung by Mr. Gingles. Pallbearers were Curt and Frank Campbell, Clark Chambers, Henry Denniston, Frank Hollarnd and G. H. Keagle. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery. The floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. A. L. Pitcher and Mrs. J. R. Armstrong, neighbors of the deceased.

Mrs. Shearer had been an invalid for twelve years and for the past three months had been in so serious condition that death came as a blessed release from all suffering.

Elizabeth Lillian Ozmun, daughter of Oliver and Penelope Osmun was bornin Indian Creek township, March 22, 1864 and departed this life on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 3:15 o'clock, at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 23 days. She came as a baby with her parents to a farm two and one half miles south of Collins and it was there she grew to womanhood. On December 25, 1884, she was married to L. D. Shearer also of this community and to them four children were born. In 1890 they moved from a farm to the town of Collins and with the exception of six years spent in Montana this has been their home.

She was always active in the affairs of the community and was ever ready and willing to aid and help anyone in pain or distress. She joined the Methodist Protestant church when it was established in this community and throughout her life remained loyal to that church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star until failing health made it impossible for her to attend. She is survived by her husband, the four children Clara M. Serbein of Collins, Myrtle S. Biesnecker of Lake Worth, Fla., J. Oliver Shearer of Waterloo, Paul L. Shearer of Spencer, eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a sister, Mrs. Clara E. Warner of Iekoa, Wash., and James L. Ozmun of Ronan, Mont.

Relatives and friends from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Wolert and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Yeager of State Center, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Shearer, Mrs. Morton Rogers, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Shearer, Mrs. Maxine Koehler, Mrs. N. H. Brinkman, Mrs. Minnie Kimberley of Colo, Clyde Serbein, Mrs. Lucy Serbein and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dauber of Marshalltown, Mr. ad Mrs. Harley Norton, Mrs. Mary Martin and Mrs. Ray Martin of Farrar and possibly others.
