Pioneer of Zearing Community Died on New Year's Day

Zearing, Jan. 2--N. A. Perry, 87, for over half a century a resident of this community died at his home here at noon on New Year's day.Funeral rites for this respected resident of the community will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at the Church of Christ with Rev. Tuttle of Whitten, a former pastor, in charge. Burial will be in the Zearing cemetery by the side of Mrs. Perry who died a year or more ago.
Mr. Perry was a native of Albany, Wisconsin, where he was born September 21, 1849. There he grew to manhood and was married on October 8, 1870 to Miss Mary van de Venter, who preceded him in death.
They came to Iowa in 1871 and spent about ten years at Webster City and Dexter, before coming to Story county in 1881 and locating on the old Perry homestead east of Zearing. There their four children grew to manhood and womanhood and their home continued until 1906 when they retired and moved into Zearing.
Of the four children, the two sons Frank and Earnest live near Zearing while the daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Craft lives at La Porte City and Mrs. Cecil Golly at Spencer.
Mr. Perry was an active member of the Church of Crhisst and of the I. O. O. F. lodge.
