Funeral Services for Herman Beal

Special to the Journal.
Colo, Aug. 7--Funeral services for Herman Beal, who died at Marshalltown August 1, were held Sunday, Aug. 4, at the Methodist church in Colo, conducted by Rev. D. W. Wise of Fernald, assisted by Rev. G. W. Keedy, superintendent of the old peoples home of Marshalltown. Burial was in the family lot in the cemetery at Collins.

Herman Beal was born in Somerset county, Pa., Sept. 13, 1860, and passed away at the old peoples' home near Marshalltown, Aug. 1, 1935, at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 18 days, after a lingering illness of which he had been bedfast since June 10 of last year.

He was the son of Solomon and Catherine Beal and was the last of a family of 14 children. He came to Illinois at the age of 18 and on Dec. 25, 1881, was united in marriage to Miss Missouri Blough. To this union there was born 3 sons and 6 daughters.

He leaves to mourn Mrs. Edith Buffington of Colo, Frank Beal of Mason City, Mrs. Clyde Webb of Alta Vista, Ia., Mrs. Maude Hostetler to Colo, Mrs. Dollie Mizer of Madison, Wis., Mrs. Mabel Ballard of Maxwell, Mrs. Hilma Myers of Shipley, 43 grand children and 9 great grand children.

His wife preceded him in death May 17, 1925 and son, James, Oct. 5, 1934. One son dying in infancy.

He united with the Church of the Brethren July 20, 1932 and was faithful as much as health permitted. He bore his sickness with out complaint and was very patient to the end.

He was a long time resident of Story county and will be missed by his family, neighbors and friends.
